Every child grows in a unique way. Some learn fast. Some take time. Both are normal. Development is not a race. It is a gentle journey. When we understand how children grow, we teach better and support every learner with love and patience.
Principles of Development
Development is slow and steady. It never stops.
First, a child learns simple skills. Then, complex skills come.
Every child grows in steps. For example, a baby crawls before it walks.
Children develop at different speeds. One child may walk at 10 months. Another may walk at 14 months. Both are normal.
Development goes from general to specific. A baby moves the whole arm first. Later, the baby learns to move fingers.
Also, development depends on heredity and environment. Genes give ability. The environment shapes that ability.
Development is predictable. School age, puberty, and learning steps follow a pattern.
Moreover, development is linked. Physical, cognitive, social, and emotional growth move together.
Direction of Development
Development moves in two ways:
Cephalocaudal — head to toe.
A baby controls the head first. Later, the legs work for walking.
Proximodistal — center to outside.
A child controls the body first. Then arms and fingers gain control.
Individual Differences
No two children are the same. Each child is unique.
Differences appear in size, speed of learning, interests, values, talent, and personality.
Some differences come from heredity. Others come from the environment, school, family, and culture.
Therefore, teachers must respect all children. Respect diversity. Support each learner.
Differentiated Instruction
Teaching must match student needs. A single method does not work for all.
Use visuals, activities, group learning, and real examples.
Mixed-ability groups help students learn from each other.
Learning styles differ:
• Visual learners like pictures
• Auditory learners like listening
• Kinesthetic learners like doing activities
Thus, flexible teaching creates better learning.
“Uniforms are same for students. Teaching methods should not be.”
